Billionaire Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft, and his wife Melinda have announced that they have decided to divorce after 27 years of marriage, world agencies reported.

“After deep thought and a lot of effort in our relationship, we decided to end our marriage,” the couple wrote on Twitter separately.

“Over the past 27 years, we have raised three amazing children and built a foundation that works around the world to help all people lead healthy and productive lives,” the statement said.
“We continue to believe in this mission and will continue to work together in the foundation, but we no longer believe that we can move forward as a couple at this stage of our lives,” the text added.

Last year, Bill Gates, who used to be the richest man in the world, said he was stepping down from Microsoft to focus on philanthropy. Gates headed Microsoft until 2000 and then gradually reduced his involvement in the company he co-founded with Paul Allen in 1975. He was chairman of the board until 2014, after which he remained a member until 2020.
