Bilbao Welcomes Microsoft: Empowering Entrepreneurship, Enabling Training, and Pioneering New Digital Projects.

He Bilbao City Hall has closed an important agreement with Microsoft with one objective: to further digitize the city, its companies and its workers. The idea is to digitally accelerate Bilbao, and for this they will carry out four lines of action under the framework of the 2030 Digital Transformation Agenda.

However, not only both the City Council like the company they want to digitize the economic sector of the city. They also want to respond to the needs of the population in terms of digital development, in addition to “reducing the digital divide suffered by certain groups of people, promoting the business fabric and improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the administration through the most advanced technology ”, they explain in the joint statement.

At the signing of the collaboration agreement was the mayor of Bilbao, Juan Mari Aburto, who stressed that this project is a “framework for action that will encompass digital projects aimed at making technological tools available that facilitate the development of startups, the digital training of citizens and municipal staff, improving municipal services and citizen attention, collaborating in reducing environmental impact, with a focus on citizens”.

Likewise, he emphasized the aforementioned concept of Bilbao’s 2030 Digital Transformation Agenda, which wants to turn the city “into a city with an innovative economic fabric, respectful of the environment, creating a friendly environment for citizens, which develops the knowledge and digital culture of all people and with an innovative, agile and efficient administration”. Within this initiative there are more than 30 projects and 15 strategic lines, he clarified.

And the first Center of Excellence in Automation and local Efficiency will also be developed. To do this, the council will have access to training for municipal staff and use cases in the form of accelerators for their adoption. In the same way, the configuration of a specific training and certification program for the City Council will be explored through virtual training.

the four lines

The four lines established by the Bilbao City Council and Microsoft are entrepreneurship, talent attraction and training, sustainability and digitization of the administration. For the first, the Microsoft for Startups Founders Hub platform will be made available to the administration, with which it will support the creation of companies and entrepreneurship and which will support startups at each stage.

The second, development and attraction of digital talent, consists of boosting the digital training of City Hall staff and citizens, with the dual purpose of generating skills in the digital field and favoring the reduction of the digital divide. In addition, both institutions will value the implementation of digital literacy and training actions aimed at vulnerable groups, especially young unemployed people.

In the third line, related to sustainability, policies, strategies and indicators will be jointly evaluated for the planning of the city’s sustainability and the development of various actions to measure and manage the environmental impact of the city council and other organizations in the municipality.

And finally, as regards the digitization of the administration itself, the council will be provided with a Modern Workplace model, where the adoption of the digital workplace in the cloud will be promoted.
