Mexico City. The United States ambassador to Mexico, Ken Salazar, said on Thursday that it is “false” that the Mexican government has been asked to “limit or suspend certain law enforcement activities” between the two governments in matters of security; on the contrary, he assured that a “deep” bilateral cooperation is maintained.
The American’s statement, without specifying the subject, comes hours after President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said that the United States asked Mexico to cancel the extradition request they made for Ismael The May Zambada and Joaquin Guzman Lopez.
In a brief statement by Salazar, released today by the U.S. Embassy, he responded to questions they have received “regarding an alleged request by the Government of Mexico to limit or suspend certain law enforcement activities between the governments of the United States and Mexico. This is false.
“Indeed, we continue to have and look forward to maintaining deep cooperation with the Government of Mexico under the Bicentennial Framework on Security. Our people are safer as a result of this important cooperation,” he said.
Ken Salazar reaffirmed that security cooperation between Mexico and the United States has reached historic levels.
“Indeed, as I reported last Friday at my press conference, the security achievements have been historic thanks to unprecedented cooperation,” he concluded.
