BZ SERIES: Steffen Disch from Restaurant Raben in Horben likes to sit on his bike.
. What do people who are in public or who are known in their locality do in their free time? And has the corona pandemic perhaps motivated one or the other to take up a previous hobby again? The Breisgau editorial team asks – today in Horben with star chef Steffen Disch.
When Steffen Disch from “Raben” is not working in Horben, he prefers to do sports – “outdoors”, he explains. The list of his favorite sports is long: skiing, kite surfing, tennis, wakeboarding, mountain biking and jogging.
Due to the pandemic, however, it has mostly been limited to the latter two in recent times. For him, it was a way of clearing his head – “and better than just lounging on the sofa”. He usually does sport three times a week. Run 20 to 30 kilometers or cycle for two to two and a half hours – preferably on the numerous different routes right at home in the Black Forest. “I like to be out on the Schauinsland or the Rosskopf,” says Disch.
Due to the pandemic and the closure of his restaurants in Horben and Freiburg, he did not necessarily have more time, because he and his team are constantly puzzling out new ideas for the “Raben” or his Kuro Mori restaurant in Freiburg, which he opened in 2020 . But he can now organize his time a little more flexibly and uses that for sport. Incidentally, bad weather doesn’t stop him. With all this sport, Disch likes to indulge in another hobby that has nothing to do with exercise: eating out.
Steffen Disch, 49, has been head chef and owner of the “Raben” in Horben since 2016 and of the Kuro Mori restaurant in Freiburg since 2020.
