Hatteras Island. This impressive 25-mile coastal bike route runs along North Carolina’s Highway 12, the only major highway on quiet Hatteras Island. “Major” is a relative term here, yet much of the journey isn’t interrupted by a single house, billboard, or convenience store. Instead, you will see the ocean on one side and the Pamlico Sound on the other.
