Mayor and Head of Mobility Sabine Groß and her team informed citizens this week about the trial operation of the planned cycle lane in the Waldstraße. This will be set up on both sides between Bleichstrasse and Hessenring/Friedrichsring this spring.
“In the coming weeks, we would like to continue to inform citizens about the trial operation in Waldstraße, answer questions and talk to them. This exchange is important to us because many different interests play a role in the project – it’s about cycling, car traffic, pedestrian traffic and quality of life. During our discussions, we not only provide information, but also take up different points of view, talk about them and incorporate them into the evaluation, which we carry out together with Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences,” explains Sabine Groß.
At the information stand at Waldstraße 114 (in front of the El-Fath Mosque), citizens got a precise picture of the planned bike lane. There was plenty of room for open topics. Mayor Groß and the responsible planning team from the Office for Mobility took their time and, using large plans and information material, explained in which section of the forest road the planned cycle lane will be located, what effects it could have on bicycle and car traffic and why there was initially only one Trial operation is. The team was supported by representatives of the Radentscheid initiative. Further information events at the weekly market and in the Albert Schweitzer School are planned.
The marking and signage services are expected to start at the end of May, so that the trial operation on both sides can then start. The project is part of the catalog of measures that the city councilors have decided to expand the bicycle infrastructure.
Further information on the cycle lanes in the Waldstraße and on cycling in general can be found at as well as on to find.
