If you’ve tried bikepacking and just can’t get used to the lower sleeping routine, this might be for you. Bike glamping. A little crazy, but still. Surely someone is crazy enough to build a bike camper like that!
YouTube stars build a bike camper
Brothers Chris and Jeff, two YouTube stars of the Dangie Bros channel (± 7.5 million followers), are known for their DIY projects. This time they built their own camper-style bike. Can you take a 160 kilometer road trip with a self-built bike camper?

If you look at the bike camper, you’ll see that Jeff and Chris were inspired by the campers you see driving around in the US. The brothers made the exterior with aluminum siding. With running water, stove, bed, lights, fans and seating area.
160 kilometers in 2 days?
There is no self-built camper on two wheels for the weights. The weight of the roof alone was 250 kilos. The bicycle on which the brothers dragged the colossus was a simple aluminum bicycle. It is not a hyper-deluxe carbon model. In the YouTube video we see one of the brothers regularly pushing the bicycle camper as fast as it is necessary to climb a small slope.
Cover a distance of 160 kilometers in two days. A goal that doesn’t seem very unrealistic to the average cyclist. However, due to the weight of the camper, the Dangie Bros could only travel 10 miles. The original target was changed to 40 kilometers. In practice, Jeff and Chris’ structure was difficult to control. It was a challenge to turn (not even a sharp one).

The bike camper experiment wasn’t a huge success, but it sure was fun! Bike lanes were sometimes on the narrow side and the drive through at Starbucks did some damage. The 40 kilometers were achieved! We are secretly looking forward to the next video from the Dangie Bros. With bike camper 2.0 which is lighter and easier to drive, they are making a new attempt to put bike glamping on the map.
