Bigger screens on the iPhones 16 Pro and Apple Watch Series 10. Does this make sense? – Jablíčkář.cz

Last month, the iPhones 16 Pro and Apple Watch Series 10 had several improvements in common. The first is the new generation of chips, but the second is for larger screens. They increased in all three cases. But is it good?

Apple I’ve been using the Watch Series 10 and iPhone 16 Pro Max every day since they launched. At the same time, the company is not the type to chase display diagonals; it generally reacts with distance and common sense. It was the same with the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, even though there were already big Android phones on the market. This also applies to iPhone XS and XS Max. But recent history has shown that customers want larger screens. That’s why we said goodbye to the iPhone mini model and opted for the Plus, that’s why they also experienced Apple Watch Ultra sales success.

The displays have increased, but the increase is very subtle and barely noticeable. After all, at 46mm Apple Watch Series 10’s screen is 1,524mm larger than that of Series 9. If we focus on the iPhone 16 Pro, they have a diagonal increase of 5.08mm. In any case, we have also grown in size.

U Apple Watch Series 10 clearly offers better interaction with slightly larger small elements. With the increase in the display, nothing happens anymore, because everything has simply bloated a little. It’s a shame, especially when it comes to the dials. The new ones are nice, but they don’t utilize the potential of a larger screen in any way. It’s also a shame we didn’t get Ulter dials on the Series 10, which would reduce the screen’s potential a bit more.

Again, it’s not about providing more information on a larger screen. These can still fit on its diagonal, but again everything is bigger and clearer, on paper the iPhone 16 Pro Max is slightly ahead of its competitors, while even Samsung does not have such a large screen size and certainly scratching your head to have it no longer present in the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

But if the magnification Apple It doesn’t bother the Watch Series 10 and you will also appreciate the thinness of the body, so in the case of the iPhone 16 Pro Max it still falls into the “heavyweight” category. The biggest problem is the 163 mm height, which is really felt. As even here it was only bloated, the lack of any anti-glare freezes. This area is already very large and would benefit from some reduction in glare.

But since I’ve moved on from the iPhone 15 Pro Max, I don’t see the display increase as a major step after these weeks of using the phone. It will not offend or excite.

While the magnification doesn’t make much sense to me with the Max, it is completely different from the purely subjective impression of the iPhone 16 Pro. I don’t have it and I don’t use it, but Apple here has finally differentiated the size from the smaller standard model. The device hasn’t grown much, but it offers a larger display area, so there’s more space for all that information.

There is already a number missing from our portfolio that would be appropriate to fill. This is a screen diagonal of 6.5 inches. It would be fantastic if the iPhone SE 4th generation got it, even if it’s just wishful thinking. Apple would thus have a well-differentiated portfolio offering all possible diagonal sizes, and the customer would thus have a relatively rich choice as to the screen size they prefer, if they no longer care about the phone’s other options.
