AN AUTHENTIC REVOLUTION – Much water has passed under the bridge since 2004, the year of the launch of the first Hyundai Tucson, a 433 cm long SUV. Now, now in its fourth edition, its style changes considerably, even compared to the model currently on sale: a revolution that goes hand in hand with the new “philosophy” of the Korean house. And if the dimensions are not distorted (the new version is 450 cm long and 167 wide, growing 2 cm in both directions, and 1.5 cm in step), the design marks a big step forward. Starting from the front, which shows a strong personality, with the mask very extended in width, so as to integrate the headlights, consisting of triangular-shaped LED lights hidden right inside the grille: once turned on, they contribute to making the car from a distance, especially in the dark.
I SEE AND DO NOT SEE – To make the style of the new one even more refined Hyundai Tucson, is the innovative technology with mirror LEDs with which the projectors are made (called Parametric Hidden Lights). With the lights off, in fact, the grid appears all of the same dark color, modeled by geometric shapes that are repeated along the entire surface, making the luminous parts indistinguishable from the others. The personality is also decisive behind it, with LED lights connected by a light band and three-dimensional lights in the tailgate. The Hyundai logo, integrated into the rear window glass, also seems to “float” in a vacuum. The side, hollowed out in the lower part, has flowing lines that express dynamism, accentuated by the pointed third window, the low roof with the long chromed arch, and the very sloping rear window. At the same time, however, the marked lines and the highly worked surfaces, almost faceted, with the wheel arches clearly visible, give a sense of strength and robustness to this SUV.
LOTS OF TECHNOLOGY IN THE CABIN – Big changes also within the Hyundai Tucson, which now shows more character in the style. The dashboard, which is flat and crossed by a black molding with chromed edges, has a simple, linear design and seems to embrace the driver and passenger. The low dashboard has 10.3 “color configurable digital instrumentation, while the large console houses the large screen (also 10.3”) of the multimedia system, with touch controls to manage the main car functions, such as the “climate” and the color of the ambient lights, adjustable in 64 shades. The theme of faceted surfaces like jewels, present on the outside in the grille and headlights, is also reflected in the coating surface of the toggle controls behind the steering wheel. The Bluelink system has been improved, which now offers new services, including Connected Routing (in navigation it takes into account traffic information along the route), vehicle location and the ability to open and close the doors remotely or view some information of the vehicle. ‘car, such as the fuel level, via the Bluelink app. The trunk is large, with a declared capacity of between 690 and 1799 liters (546/1725 for the light diesel hybrid). The safety of the new one was taken care of Hyundai Tucson, which comes with seven airbags as standard, with the new central “cushion” to limit the damage caused, in the event of a side impact, to the impact between the driver and the passenger. Among the electronic driving assistance systems, the adaptive cruise control assisted by the navigator, the lane maintenance and the anti-slumber.
SOON IN DEALER – As for the engines of the Hyundai Tucson, in addition to the 1.6 aspirated and turbocharged petrol and the 1.6 diesel, there are also mild-hybrid, hybrid and plug-in hybrid petrol versions, combined with the six-speed manual gearbox and the seven-speed robot, and front-wheel drive or whole wheat. The latter offers the new terrain Mode selector, which allows you to set three driving modes, to make driving on low-grip surfaces (such as mud, sand and snow) and light off-road easier and safer. The Hyundai Tucson hybrid is powered by the 1.6 T-GDI turbo with direct petrol injection, combined with a 60 HP electric motor and a 1.49 kWh lithium battery; the gearbox is automatic with six gears. Available with two and four-wheel drive, it has a total of 230 HP and 350 Nm of maximum torque. There are three options for the mild-hybrid versions, with 48 V battery: 1.6 T-GDI petrol 150 HP (front-wheel drive only) or 180 HP, and 1.6 CRDi diesel 136. Finally, the 1.6 petrol from 150 hp, two and four-wheel drive, and 1.6 diesel 115 (front-wheel drive only). And if these versions can be ordered shortly, with prices from around 28,000 euros, the plug-in hybrid with the 1.6 T-GDI will arrive later, in the course of 2021.
