– Driving the turnaround in traffic and improving environmentally friendly mobility: That’s what a different kind of demo is all about. In Nuremberg and Fürth there will be a big wheel rally on Sunday, April 23rd, starting in all four directions.
Motorists must be patient on Sunday, April 23: Demonstrators will cycle through Nuremberg and Fürth and demand better cycling infrastructure throughout Bavaria. The organizers are the Nuremberg district association of the General German Bicycle Club (ADFC) and the “Radentscheid Bayern” alliance. The “Radentscheid Bayern” alliance was founded by the ADFC Bayern, the Bavarian state association of the Verkehrsclub Deutschland and the eleven municipal Bavarian Radentscheids (Augsburg, Bamberg, Bayreuth, Erlangen, Freising, Munich, Nuremberg, Neu-Ulm, Regensburg, Rosenheim, Würzburg).
“Sure cycling. Now!” is the motto of the event on April 23 in Nuremberg, Fürth and other Bavarian cities. A cycling law is required that regulates the nationwide basis for rapid planning and the expansion of cycling infrastructure.
Start is in all four cardinal directions
The rally in Nuremberg and Fürth begins in all directions. The routes meet at the Opera House around 2 p.m. From there, the demo makes several laps around Nuremberg’s Altstadtring and ends with a rally at around 3:30 p.m. on the main market. Since the campaign color of the Radentscheid is blue, the participants should wear a blue T-shirt. Roadworthy banners and flags may also be carried. Except for the individual group rides in the southwest, the demo is secured by the police.
There are various starting points in Nuremberg and Fürth – for example in the north at the tram terminus in Nuremberg, Am Wegfeld, at 1.10 p.m. In the east it starts at the Nürnberg-Erlenstegen tram terminus at 1:15 p.m. In the west, the participants start in Fürth at the Grüner Markt at 12.45 p.m. In the south, the meeting point is at 1 p.m. in Nuremberg-Langwasser at the Aral petrol station, Münchener Str. 400. The individual groups in the southwest start at Röthenbacher Landgraben 2 at 1 p.m.
On March 10, the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior submitted the application for approval for the “Radentscheid Bayern” referendum, signed by more than 100,000 people, to the Bavarian Constitutional Court for a decision. The Constitutional Court has three months to examine the Interior Ministry’s objections to the bill for the referendum. The wheel rally mobilizes for demands from the “Radentscheid Bayern” alliance. The state government should prioritize the traffic turnaround and no longer focus on expanding motorways and federal roads. Traffic policy should also be geared towards the weakest in traffic. In addition, the alliance calls for the development of a to be involved in the wheel law.
