Big trips planned during Thanksgiving

With Thanksgiving upon us, some New Yorkers are starting to leave the city to spend the holiday with loved ones.

Nearly 55 million people are expected to travel at least 50 miles from home during the holiday season.

These numbers are close to pre-pandemic levels.

Now, if you’re thinking about driving, think twice.

Tomorrow and Wednesday are traffic jam warning days in the city, where the Department of Transportation predicts the greatest volume of traffic.

For this reason it is recommended to use public transport instead, which is why the MTA is preparing to suspend the ordinary maintenance of bridges and tunnels.

Trains on the Long Island Rail Road and Metro North that operate very early departure times will not operate.

Trains and buses throughout the MTA system will operate on special schedules, and additional times will be added Wednesday through Sunday to meet what is expected to be high demand.

The “Q70 Select Bus” service to LaGuardia Airport will be complimentary, and the MTA encourages customers to use the many fare promotions offered by the LIRR, Metro-North Railroad and New York City Transit to obtain discounted fares.
