Bulgarian football legend Krasimir Balakov can continue his coaching career in the Republic of North Macedonia. According to the Turkish-language specialist portal Balkan Futbolu, Balakov is an option for the Gostivar team from the country’s First League.
“The North Macedonian team Gostivar is in talks with Krasimir Balakov for the manager’s post,” the website wrote, illustrating its short post with a photo of Balakov juggling a ball, dressed in casual trousers and a short-sleeved blouse.
The Gostivar team is supported by Turkish sponsors, and the president of the club is Enes Usta. It currently occupies 3rd place in the standings with 17 points, 2 from the leader Rabotnicki (Skopje) and 1 from the 2nd Shkendia (Tetovo). The team is undefeated and has 4 wins and 5 draws in 9 games, but despite this, the previous head coach Muarem Muarem was dismissed from the post.
Krasimir Balakov was last in charge of Lokomotiv (Sofia) at the end of last season, when the team was threatened with relegation. Led by the former number 10 of the national team, however, they not only saved themselves, but also avoided additional play-offs with teams from the Second League.
Gostivar had a Bulgarian specialist in its staff some time ago. Then Zlatko Yankov – another of the glorious generation of Bulgaria from the 90s, was the assistant coach of a Turkish specialist and together they managed to qualify Gostivar for participation in the First League of the Republic of North Macedonia.
