Zapping Onze Mondial EXCLUSIVE: the “Little Brother” interview with Randal Kolo Muani!
Will Chelsea follow the lead of London rivals Tottenham and Arsenal and abandon Stamford Bridge and build a new stadium? According to reports from Guardianthis would be an increasingly real possibility. The will of the Blues leaders would thus be to find a new ground on the side of Earls Court, and especially to increase the capacity of a stadium which can currently accommodate only 40,343 spectators. Faced with the difficulty of renovating Stamford Bridge, the new Chelsea stadium could be located in the west of London.
Chelsea wants to build a new stadium but…
Discussions deemed “productive” have reportedly taken place with Transport for London, one of the partners in charge of the Earls Court site, and property developer Delancey. Plans have reportedly been drawn up by the Premier League club with the Lillie Bridge depot as a buildable area. However, nothing has been done yet as the Earl’s Court Development Committee is reportedly keen to build a mixed-use development, which does not include a football stadium. A project that could go ahead if planning permission is granted.
A spokesperson for this committee also warned the Blues: “We do not plan for Chelsea FC to move to the Earl’s Court site. We have a fully detailed plan, soon to be registered with both local authorities, that prioritises the creation of thousands of homes and jobs, culture and open spaces through a well-designed and considered masterplan that has evolved over four years of engagement. Development will commence in 2026 with the first residents and occupants moving in from 2030. This is and will remain our primary focus.“
