Several big stars have packed their bags and moved to Saudi Arabia. Cristiano Ronaldo, N’Golo Kanté and Kalidou Koulibaly are a few names.
The English legend Steven Gerrard recently signed on as coach of Al Ettifaq, where Robin Quaison, among others, resides.
Manchester United icon Rio Ferdinand is now furious with Jamie Carragher.
– Where are you, man? I have heard a lot of negative talk about Saudi Arabia, says Ferdinand in a clip published by FIVE.
“Bernardo Silva (allegedly on his way to Saudi, ed. note), ah I can’t believe it, it’s a disgrace, the league needs to investigate,” Ferdinand claims Carragher is said to have said.
He continues:
– Steven Gerrard has moved, you used to wear his shoes and bags at Anfield. Your guy has moved there and I haven’t heard a peep from you. I haven’t heard how disappointed you are. I want to hear him say “I can’t believe ‘Stevie’ has moved there”. Just because it’s Saudi people get mad, but all these other countries and leagues over the years have done the exact same thing.
Carragher responded in a post on Twitter:
“I have never criticized (Bernardo, ed. note) Silva, (Karim) Benzema, (Ruben) Neves or “SG”, I don’t like Saudi trying to buy football like they have done with golf,” he writes, addressing Rio Ferdinand, just like you were in Qatar.
“I knew you’d go nuts over it”
45-year-old Carragher made 737 appearances for Liverpool and ended his career in 2013. Ferdinand hung up his boots in 2015 and made 455 appearances for Manchester United.
Never criticised Silva, Benzema, Neves or SG, I don’t like Saudi trying to buy football like they have Golf.
