Originally, Lando Calrissian was supposed to have his own “Star Wars” series. However, this was canceled. It remains to be seen whether the film planned instead will have a future.

As in “Solo,” “Community” star Donald Glover was supposed to play the smuggler in a Disney+ series. In 2023, it was announced that the project would be turned into a film by Glover and his brother, who had already written the series “Atlanta” together. Justin Simien (“Dear White People”), who wrote the series version of „Lando“ should lead, has towards Collider looking back at the canceled series:

Simien also talks about how much the end of the “Lando” series affected him:
“For me, the answer is that you really have to confront it. That’s true grief. I’ve never had a child, I’ve never lost a child, but that’s how I imagine the pain. You put so much heart and soul into something, but ultimately, you have no control over whether it lives or dies, it’s a real grieving process.”
There is still no news about the planned “Lando” film. Most recently, during the big Hollywood strike in 2023, it was suggested that a film would be released instead of a series. However, since Glover is very busy as a musician, actor, comedian, screenwriter and much more, it will probably be some time before the “Star Wars” project becomes a reality – if at all.
