It’s a famous coup for supporters of the European Super League (ESL), the Champions League 2.0 project carried out by the trio of European football giants, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus. The advocate general of the European Court of Justice estimated on Thursday that UEFA was within its rights when it threatened to fine clubs over the initiative of the Super League project which had nearly imploded European football in 2021.
“FIFA and UEFA rules making any new competition subject to prior authorization are compatible with EU competition law“, estimated the Advocate General Athanasius Rantos.
