Big rush for camping and parking spaces in the region

Further corona easing in the Wrzburg district has been in effect since Friday. In addition to the relaxation of visits to the meadow gastronomy, holidays on camping and mobile home pitches in the region are also permitted for the first time since last year. The operators of the places get to feel this clearly. You can hardly save yourself from inquiries.

Camping and parking spaces are fully booked

“We have been fully booked for weeks, now people are coming,” says Stefan Schmitt, owner of the Wrzburg campsite “Kalte Quelle”. The phone rang around the clock. “Unfortunately, we have to turn down other people. I have no more chance of finding someone with us.”

Schmitt has 80 spaces available for tents, mobile homes and caravans, and every one of them is occupied over the Whitsun weekend. This puts the 53-year-old in a good mood, as the “cold spring” has closed for the last seven months. And not only is the mood good with him, the holidaymakers are also in a good mood. “The guests arrive with a smile,” says Schmitt.

Gerhard Braun, chairman of the water sports club (WSC) Eibelstadt, who takes care of the local motorhome parking lot, has a similar experience. “We opened this morning at 10 o’clock,” says Braun. There are 50 registrations for Friday and 40 for Saturday. “Then it’s full here,” he explains. A total of 90 mobile homes can be parked on the pitch.

Negative test, vaccination, or proof of recovery required

Braun is happy that the square is allowed to open again. “Half a year was closed, but our costs for staff or cleaning are still running,” he explains. However, only those who have previously registered in writing are allowed to come. In addition, the WSC must record the vacationers’ data and “the three G’s” are also taken into account, according to Braun. “People have to show that they have either recovered, tested or vaccinated.”

As a result, registration for a place on the Main takes a little longer than in the previous year. The negative test on the day of arrival is valid for 24 hours. The 66-year-old explains that the coronavirus will be tested again every 48 hours. The tests would have to be brought by the vacationers themselves and carried out on site. A hygiene concept also applies to the parking space, for example in the sanitary facilities. The same applies to the “Kalten Quelle” – in addition to tests, vaccinations or proof of recovery, there is a requirement of distance on the pitch. There should be a distance of five meters between each advertised space.

No gatherings of people allowed on the pitch

Schmitt is confident that the coming weeks will go well. “People are decent and obey the rules.” Braun is also convinced that there will be no problems. “It’s going well, people are doing it. They are happy to be able to come back.” Nevertheless, he is exercising caution: In order to prevent large crowds from occurring on the pitch, Braun is currently not accepting group bookings from associations or clubs.

“Usually there are also larger group meetings here. That is no longer possible,” said the board of directors. Unlike other times, the bookings that Braun have received so far are only from holidaymakers from Germany. “In normal years, at most half of the bookings come from Germany.”

The Stiegler family traveled from Ludwigsburg to Eibelstadt with their mobile home on Friday morning. “We think it’s nice here and wanted to be part of the first,” says Renate Stiegler. They spend the Whitsun weekend together with another household, a couple of friends who have placed their motorhome right next to the Stieglers’ home.

Among other things, a bike tour on the Main is planned, and on Monday I will go back home. “Actually, a vacation like this on the pitch is nothing special, but something like this is now appreciated,” the vacationers agree. “It’s just a little bit of freedom.”
