Is Lionel Messi retiring from Major League Soccer? The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner was recently courted by his ex-national team-mate Gonzalo Higuain. Messi would be a huge draw for the country and league, Higuain said.
Messi, who is celebrating his 36th birthday a few days before his contract with Paris Saint-Germain ends in 2023, should be able to imagine introducing footballer pensions in the USA. Or in his native Argentina.
Inter Miami and co-owner David Beckham are reportedly already luring the superstar. “Inter Miami are considering three world-class players who could come in the post-World Cup season in Qatar,” journalist Eduardo Inda told El Chiringuito. “It’s Leo Messi, Luis Suarez and Cesc Fabregas.”

According to Inda, Messi has a release clause at Paris Saint-Germain that allows him to leave in the summer of 2022. Inter Miami does not want to sign the Copa America winners until 2023, according to the editor-in-chief of the sometimes imaginative online newspaper Ok Diario.
While Messi has been playing in Ligue 1 since the summer, Fabregas has been under contract with AS Monaco since early 2019. His working paper expires at the end of the season. Suarez, who was chased off the court at Barça in 2020, is also still employed at Atletico Madrid until June 30, 2022.
