Britain’s Princess of Wales Catherine will next month make her most significant return to royal duties next month. She will host the annual Christmas service at Westminster Abbey in London, Reuters reported. The wife of Crown Prince William has made only a handful of public appearances since undergoing major abdominal surgery in January and then undergoing preventative chemotherapy when subsequent tests revealed the presence of cancer.
Last weekend, Princess Catherine attended two major commemorations for those who died in conflict as part of her gradual return to official duties. However, the Christmas service, the fourth she has hosted, will be the first major royal event she has hosted.
“This year’s service is an occasion to think about the importance of love and empathy and how much we need each other, especially in the most difficult moments of our lives,” said a statement made by Kensington Palace, reports BTA. The message echoes the words of Catherine, who, sharing an update on her health in September, said her illness has made her grateful to “simply love and be loved”.
The Princess of Wales and other members of the royal family will be joined at the Together at Christmas service at Westminster Abbey by 1,600 people who have supported others in their communities. The event, which will be broadcast on British television, will also include performances by singers Paloma Faith, Olivia Dean and Gregory Porter.
