Big Lots closes 75 stores in California and here is the list – Excelsior California

Discount retailer Big Lots is closing 75 stores in California, new regulatory filings show.

The 386-page submission to the Securities and Exchange Commission details the new loan terms with its lenders. Two months ago, Big Lots said it would close 150 stores, but that number has since increased to 315.

California is taking the biggest hit. By the time the last 75 stores close, it will operate just 34 locations in the state. At least 30 of the closings are in Southern California. The Ohio-based discount store chain cited the U.S. economy and “macroeconomic challenges” such as inflation that are dampening customer spending. First-quarter sales were down nearly 10%. The company, in its earnings presentation, reported a net loss of $205 million for the period.

Big Lots, which has about 1,389 stores in the United States, is the latest of several retailers to close scores of locations as sales decline.

Earlier this year, all 99 Cents Only stores closed. Many of those vacant locations in California are being converted into Dollar General after parent company Dollar Tree bought the leases in a bankruptcy sale. Here is the list of California stores that will close:
