Big holiday! They draw the most magical names for the first Bulgarian martyr, canonized as a saint

The Orthodox Church today celebrates the memory of St. Martyr Boyan – Prince of Bulgaria.

The prophecy of the holy martyr Boyan, Prince of Bulgaria according to the Bulgarian Orthodox Church is related to the baptism of the Bulgarians. Legend has it that during the reign of Khan Krum (802-814), the Byzantine scholar Kinamon was once taken prisoner. Krum’s son Omurtag (814-831) noticed his influence on his sons or simply out of hostility to Christianity forced him to take part in an idolatrous meal.

When Omurtag’s heir, his youngest son Malamir (831-836), came to power, at the request of his older brother Enravota, he took Kinamon out of prison and gave him to his brother as a slave, so Prince Enravota under the influence of Kinamon he secretly accepted Christian baptism and was called Boyan.

There is no factual information about him: neither where his tomb is, nor where his relics are, nor whether a service was held in his honor. His memory is celebrated on March 28 with the mention of his name in the round-the-clock worship service. Prince Boyan of Bulgaria is known as the first Bulgarian martyr to die for the Christian faith.

On March 28 name day is celebrated by all who bear the name Boyan (means – magician, healer), Boyanka, Boyko, Boyka, Albena.
