It’s a break with tradition. And a departure in dimensions unprecedented in Switzerland: In addition to the Telli high-rise (85 meters), a 59.4-meter high school building with 13 floors is planned arise. Immediately east of the indoor swimming pool on the area of the athletics facility (hard court).
The high-rise school building is part of two of the three variant studies that the Aarau city council had drawn up. A step-by-step approach is planned; the total investment is likely to be in the region of CHF 75 million.

The Aarau school plans will meet with little enthusiasm in Brugg and Lenzburg. By vacating the Zelgli school building, space can be created in Aarau for the canton schools. City President Hanspeter Hilfiker says: “It’s about both: the new upper school building and securing the canton schools.” And: “We are also making the offer as an exchange: With an insured sum of over 45 million francs, the Zelgli school building is the most valuable building in the city’s possession.”
The feasibility study is available, the city council wants to make the location decision for the upper school Schachen by the end of the year.
