Shortly before half past four on Saturday evening, a large fire broke out on the fourth floor of an apartment building on Sterrebos Street in Breda. The tenant of the apartment where the fire broke out would have been rushed to the hospital.
It is not yet known exactly how the fire started. Although it was a large fire, the firefighters prevented the flames from spreading to the other apartments in the building, which consists of 12 floors in total. However, residents of at least 12 adjacent apartments were evacuated from the building.
The signal to fire was given just before half past six. After the fire was contained, surrounding apartments were checked for smoke and carbon monoxide. For safety, those houses were also ventilated.
Lots of smoke
The fire released a lot of smoke, so much so that the Central and West Brabant security region warned people in the area to close windows and doors and turn off ventilation systems.
