A major fire broke out in a flower bulb company in Den Helder. An NL warning was posted to the area due to the nuisance of smoking. Nobody was hurt.
The fire raged in several company warehouses and large clouds of smoke were released and moved over Den Helder, reportedly. NH News. Local residents were then advised to close doors and windows via an NL notice. The fire was brought under control shortly after 11pm.
At least thirty employees were still present when the fire broke out. The security region announced that all employees have been removed from the building.
The fire may have released asbestos, the security region reports. Material that could be asbestos was found in the area from the Nieuweweg roundabout to Den Helder Zuid station. This is still under investigation, the security region says
Strong wind and sparks
The images show that the company is near a petrol pump, where the so-called flying fire also blows. The security region says there are still no concerns that the fire will spread there.
“Due to the strong wind, a lot of sparks are blowing, which is an additional danger,” a spokesman for the security region told NH Nieuws.
There are concerns about a house near the shed where the fire is raging and another shed on the site. These are kept wet by the fire brigade as a precaution.
In Den Helder, a Halloween market and shops are closed as a precaution, the municipality announced via Twitter. The smoke spreads around the city and causes a lot of nuisance.
Further research is underway into the consequences of the fire for the environment, the spokesperson said. “If necessary, we evacuate local residents or evacuate neighboring properties.”
