Big fine for Neymar (JOSEP LAGO)
The Brazilian football superstar Neymar has to pay the equivalent of 3.05 million euros for irregularities in the construction of his luxury property. The Mangaratiba Municipality Mayor’s Office fined the Paris St. Germain striker a total of four for “violations in the construction of an artificial lake at the player’s mansion”.
According to the announcement, the authorities found “dozens of violations”. These include, among other things, “catching and diverting river water” and “removing land and suppressing vegetation”, each without a permit.
Neymar has 20 days to appeal the penalty. The amount was originally set at five million reais (almost one million euros). The representatives of the 31-year-old in Brazil did not respond to a request from the AFP news agency.
Neymar bought the villa, which is about 130 kilometers from Rio de Janeiro, in 2016. According to Brazilian media, it stands on a 10,000 square meter plot and has a helipad, spa and gym.
The authorities became aware of complaints on social media and cordoned off the site. Allegedly, Neymar still had a party there afterwards and swam in the artificial lake.
