Big disappointment after the draw at Phönix Lübeck: SV Meppen had to settle for a draw at Phönix Lübeck at the final whistle on Sunday. The goal came in the sixth minute of added time in front of 547 spectators.
There were good opportunities on both sides in the first ten minutes: Meppen’s Marek Janssen (6th minute) headed a cross from Tobias Mißner over the goal at the first post. Four minutes later, Jonathan Stöver headed next to the SVM goal.
The guests from Emsland then took over the reins of action. First, Stefan Rankic missed a free kick from Tim Möller at the second post. In the 14th minute, Phoenix keeper Carl Leonhard made two strong saves against Christopher Schepp and then against Janssen. Möller failed in front of the goal in the 26th minute.
The reward for all the effort finally came in the second half. After Jonathan Wensing sent Janssen on the left side, he prevailed strongly against his ex-teammate Sander van Looy and deliberately placed the ball in front of the goal. Niclas Wessels proved to be a grateful receiver and pushed the ball over the line to take the lead.
But in the 60th minute, SVM coach Lucas Beniermann’s team only had ten men on the field. Jonas Fedl was shown a yellow-red card after another foul. But the Meppeners shouldn’t notice the minority at first. Defensively, all players pulled together and hardly let anything go wrong. In the 78th minute, Janssen had the chance to make it 2-0 after an assist from substitute Luca Prasse, but the strong Leonhard kept his team in the game again.
When hardly anyone in the Buniamshof stadium expected a goal, Leonhard ran forward in the last action of the game at a corner for the hosts. His header was initially blocked. But Obinna Johnson Iloka maneuvered the ball over the goal line in the crowd – 1-1. Bitter for SV Meppen, which is still in 5th place in the table for the time being.
