President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) reveals the pressure received by Indonesia from the big countries. He also has expressed his position to the President of the United States (US) Joe Biden and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
The pressure given to Indonesia is on the transition of fossil energy to new and renewable energy (EBT). The former governor of DKI Jakarta also asked big countries not to just talk. He explained that there is a problem in the energy transition, where the cost for NRE is more expensive than fossil energy.
“Here, there is gap, because this (fossil) is cheap, this one (EBT) is rather expensive. Now, gapthis one how how to solve? Because there will be a lot of investment,” said Jokowi in a broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel, Saturday (20/11/2021).
“We spoke yesterday with Boris Johnson, with Joe Biden, about this. Big countries don’t just talk, but here it is. problem. Gap who is this bear? Who should finish? If a developing country is not possible order, We can’t, I’ll tell you what it is. Well, they seem willing,” he continued.
Developed countries have also promised to provide funds of US $ 100 billion. The money will be disbursed around the world every year. However, Jokowi emphasized that developed countries should not only give empty dreams.
“From the promise of US$ 100 billion every year for everything, for the whole world, every year, don’t just give an idea of the numbers, but the money doesn’t show up, we’ll just speak frankly,” said Jokowi.
Indonesia, he continued, must prepare itself to shift the use of fossil energy to renewable energy, starting from hydroelectric power, wind, to solar power. All of that began to be identified.
“Because we will be pressured, ‘don’t invest in Indonesia, because it still uses fossils, don’t give aid to Indonesia because it still uses fossils’. The pressure must be like that. This is what we have to anticipate,” he added.
