There have been major changes in the management of the Japanese car manufacturer Toyota – the CEO and president of the company, Akio Toyoda, who held this position since 2009, has resigned from this position and he will continue to be the chairman of Toyota, while the main person in the management of Toyota will continue to be Koji Sato. He previously headed the motorsport division of Lexus and Toyota.
There was no foreshadowing of Toyota’s announcement, while the current and new management have been very friendly, at least publicly. The changes still need to be approved at Toyota’s shareholder meeting to officially take effect, but that’s likely to be a formality.
Toyota is one of the largest car manufacturers in the world by the number of cars produced, but in recent years the company has received a lot of criticism for its attitude towards electric cars, with Toyota falling behind its competitors in this area. In the end, however, Toyota reworked its electric car strategy and planned ambitious investments for their development. True, the new and electric Toyota bZ4X it was not greeted with shouts of delight and the car is rather evaluated as very mediocre.
Market analysts point out that with such a move, Toyota is trying to offer younger faces in the management of the company, while maintaining the overall vision and philosophy.
