Junior world champion honored in Bischofshofen
– Before the final battles of the Salzburg team state championships in Bischofshofen, the gold medalist from this year’s Junior World Championships was treated to a big ceremony. A good two weeks ago, 20-year-old Elena Dengg sensationally won gold at the Junior World Championships in Dushanbe (TJK).
The ceremony in the Hermann Wielandner Hall was led by Sanjindo chairman Thomas Wentz, who welcomed numerous guests and well-wishers in Elena’s honor. The ceremonial speeches with the presentation of gifts were opened by the Vice President of the Judo Regional Association of Salzburg, Karin Dorfinger. The mayor of the municipality of Bischofshofen, Hans-Jörg Obinger and Ms. Andrea Zarfl (LSO) also followed.
Elena’s thanksgiving to the two most important women behind her was very emotional. On the one hand, Elena warmly thanked her mother and, on the other hand, her long-time trainer and supporter Marianne Niederdorfer, who only recently ended her hospital stay after an accident.
At the end of the ceremony, many young judoka stood in line to get an autograph from their role model. Elena didn’t miss the opportunity to hold the award ceremony for the Salzburg team championships together with Ms. Andrea Zarfl and to present the successful participants with medals and trophies!
