The 29-year-old ‘Big Brother’ finalist from the Limburg city of Halen had trouble with her eyes last Sunday and went straight to a doctor. “I have some less good news. I was admitted to the hospital yesterday because I had a blurry vision in my right eye since Sunday morning that just wouldn’t go away. I went to my GP and he referred me to an ophthalmologist. He saw that my eye was okay and then referred me to emergency room for neurological examinations,” she begins her Instagram message.
Inflamed optic nerve
«I had a brain scan yesterday, spinal cord injection to take cerebrospinal fluid, blood taken and an MRI scan this morning. I got a Baxter Solu-Medrol yesterday and today to help improve my eye, but it doesn’t guarantee a cure. In other words, this can also be permanent. I won’t know this for a few weeks. Tomorrow I get another baxter like this. They told me I have optic neuritis anyway. That is an inflamed optic nerve. But in 50% of cases, the cause of an optic neuritis is an autoimmune disease.
heavy verdict
After additional examination by the neurologist, the severe verdict came. «I have an autoimmune disease. I have MS. Multiple sclerosis. They all see spots on my brain that indicate previous inflammations, but from which I didn’t get any symptoms. This time I did, through my optic nerve. I’m still getting appointments with the MS specialist to start medication, so I don’t have any news about that yet. My clock stops for a moment. I’m a very positive person, so I also believe that this can be treated well and I’m going to find the best doctors to guide me. So we’ll see. (Pun intended)», she concludes.
