Bielefeld’s corona minus grows to 13.5 million euros, Bundesliga news ticker

Around 300 members present voted Schütte as the only candidate on Monday evening at the annual general meeting in the Schüco Arena. The 73-year-old Laufer had previously said goodbye in tears. Arminia’s statutes do not provide for a renewed candidacy for people over the age of 70. Maurice Eschweiler inherits Hermann Richter as Vice-President and Treasurer, Bernard Kiezewski is succeeded by Olaf Köster, who is henceforth responsible for the other departments in the club.

Previously, among other things, the numbers of the professional society had been announced. Accordingly, the deficit caused by the coronavirus pandemic at the Bundesliga club adds up to around 13.5 million euros. For the 2020/2021 financial year ending on June 30th, Arminia is calculating a minus of 3.4 million euros. This is offset by an unrealized profit of 6.3 million euros, which would have been possible without Corona.

The 2019/2020 financial year, which was already marked by the pandemic and at the end of which the club had returned to the Bundesliga, had ended East Westphalia with a loss of 3.4 million euros instead of a profit of 500,000 euros.

“That was a difficult year. Our East Westphalian conservative planning benefited us,” said Finance Director Markus Rejek about the past season. “I hope that, thanks to the relegation, we can put the pandemic in the drawer in the summer of 2022 to some extent without accidents.”

At the start of the new season, the Arminen are planning a partial return of the fans. Around 9,000 spectators should then initially be able to attend the games, which would correspond to a stadium occupancy of 33 percent. The first home game on matchday one will take place against SC Freiburg.

“We are still planning cautiously for 2021/2022, even if we are a little brave with the transfers here and there,” said Rejek. This summer, Arminia signed Masaya Okugawa from Red Bull Salzburg and Florian Krüger from FC Erzgebirge Aue for around one million euros each. The club had not paid any transfer fees recently.
