Biel confirms the cancellation of the carnival

The City of Biel supports the measures taken by the Confederation and the Canton of Bern to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. In a statement released on Friday afternoon, the authorities of the Netherlands confirm that the Biel carnival has been canceled and that the HC Biel match scheduled for Friday evening at the Tissot Arena will be played without spectators. No specific measure currently concerns schools and nurseries.

Bienne also recalls that “the municipal authorities do not have autonomous powers to issue health measures concerning the population or to pronounce them on their own.” These measures depend on the Confederation and the canton, and the City actively supports their decisions.

Revenge measures will be taken at the level of the municipal administration. Staff will be better informed about the behavior to adopt. Glass walls will also be installed in the counters. Other decisions may be taken depending on the evolution of the situation to ensure the proper functioning of the services. / Comm-ast
