“President Biden also wanted to discuss his deep concerns about Russia [karaspēka] “focusing on Ukraine’s borders and his commitment to respond with tough measures in the event of Russia’s military escalation,” said White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki.

The President of Ukraine said after the conversation – Biden emphasized that without Kiev no decisions could be made affecting Ukraine, and also assured Zelenksim that the country’s efforts to join NATO were in Kiev’s own hands.

Biden also called on the leaders of the Eastern European countries, including the Baltic states, to confirm the security guarantees of the United States.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, meanwhile, has escalated his rhetoric on Ukraine, saying what is happening in eastern Ukraine, where part of the territory is controlled by pro-Kremlin separatists, looking like genocide.

“We can talk about Russophobia as a first step towards genocide. You and I see what is happening in Donbass. It is certainly very reminiscent of genocide, as you said. We have to be very careful not to level these definitions, but they have to reflect the reality that is happening, ”Putin said.

White House spokeswoman Jena Psaki denied the statement, saying Russia was known for its escalation of rhetoric and misinformation.
