US President Joe Biden shared in a radio interview for FOX 4that he had suicidal thoughts after the deaths of his first wife and daughter.
In one of the most candid moments of the interview, Biden talked about his feelings of despair after the deaths of his first wife, Nilia, and his 13-month-old daughter, Naomi, including the thought of getting drunk, despite never drinking alcohol.
“I used to sit there and just think, ‘I’m going to pull out a bottle of whiskey,'” Biden said. “I’ll just drink it and get drunk.”

“I just thought you don’t have to be crazy to kill yourself. If you’ve been to the top of the mountain, you think you’re never going back there.” adds Biden. “I thought, ‘Let me just go to the Delaware Memorial (Bridge) and jump.’
In the interview, Biden encouraged those struggling with similar issues to seek therapy.
The interview surprised many because it was not included in Biden’s public schedule. He had spent the night before in New York after attending a benefit night hosted by actor Michael Douglas in Westchester County.
Joe Biden’s first wife, Nilia, and his infant daughter, Naomi, were killed in a car accident in December 1972. His two sons, Hunter and Beau, were injured in the crash.
