US President Joe Biden receives a new booster dose of the covid-19 vaccine on Tuesday, an opportunity he will take advantage of to ask his compatriots to follow suit as winter approaches.
The 79-year-old Democrat, who had had Covid-19 three months ago, received a second booster shot in late March.
The new one will be received in the White House in the presence of reporters and is effective against two sub-variants of the virus.
According to officials, Joe Biden will announce initiatives to encourage Americans to get vaccinated before the holiday season, which is ripe for travel and family reunions.
“The virus continues to evolve. Covid-19, flu and other respiratory diseases spread faster during the winter when people congregate indoors,” the White House said in a statement.
“As the climate gets colder, Americans need to take steps to protect themselves. We have the tools we need to manage it,” he added.
“Most Americans, if they get this updated COVID-19 vaccine, can live their lives this fall and winter with peace of mind knowing they will be protected from serious illness,” he insisted.
