Georgia Republican Senator David Perdue, whose seat is being contested by Democrat Jon Ossoff, declined to participate in a debate scheduled before the runoff election in January, reported CNN.
–
The face-to-face had been organized by the Atlanta Press Club for Dec. 6, its president MaryLynn Ryan said.
–
Faced with the Republican’s refusal to participate in the debate, his Democratic rival tweeted: “It seems that Senator David Perdue is too much of a coward to debate with me again. Senator, come out and try to defend your record. I’m ready to go.”

Looks like Sen. David Perdue is too much of a coward to debate me again.
Perdue can’t defend his lies about COVID-19, self-dealing stock trades, his bigotry, or his votes to take away Georgians’ health care.
Senator, come on out and try to defend your record. I’m ready to go. https://t.co/OONfwSjylt

Perdue’s campaign manager, Ben Fry, responded to the Democrats’ challenge in a statement: “The runoff in Georgia is an extension of the November 3 general election, where 52% of Georgians voted against Jon Ossoff and his radical agenda. Perdue scored a resounding victory in first place, beating Ossoff by more than 85,000 votes. “

On November 3, Perdue obtained 2,458,716 votes (49.7%), while Ossoff reached 2,372,207 votes (48%). Liberal candidate Shane Hazel drew 114,889 votes (2.35). As none of them reach 50%, state law requires a second round.
