Biden Warns World Threats Other Than Covid, US Has Been Hit

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Global threats other than Covid-19, namely climate change, are increasingly real. The President of the United States (US) Joe Biden even again voiced his concern about the dangers of global warming.

He even said that the world was being given a “code red” and that the US had already been affected. This was marked by the arrival of Hurricane Ida which hit Uncle Sam’s country.

“We have to listen to scientists and economists and national security experts. They’re all telling us it’s ‘code red’,” Biden said while visiting hurricane victims Ida in New York. AFP, Wednesday (8/9/2021).

Biden also added that the world needs more efforts to reduce global emissions. Otherwise, the Delaware president said these disasters would continue and would not stop.

“These disasters will not stop. They will only come with more frequency and violence,” he stressed.

On several previous occasions, Biden has often included the climate change agenda in his speeches. He even mentioned that Jakarta is also facing the threat of climate change.

“If, in fact, sea levels rose another two and a half feet, you would have millions of people migrating, fighting over fertile land…,” he said in a speech last month.

“…What happens in Indonesia if the projections are correct that, in the next 10 years, they may have to move the capital city because they will be underwater?”

Not only Biden, the Indonesian Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani has also made a similar threat. Sri Mulyani even mentioned that the threat of climate change is a very dangerous threat and haunts the world after the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Just like a pandemic, no country can escape or be free from the threat of climate change. Even like a pandemic, countries are the least prepared in terms of their health systems, in terms of their fiscal capacity, in terms of discipline and in terms of their ability to get vaccines and carry out vaccines. their vaccinations will probably be the hardest hit from the pandemic,” he said.

Hurricane Ida hit the US since last week. Rain accompanied by typhoons caused some areas to be hit by flash floods. So far, more than 50 people have died from the storm.
