Biden Urges Congress to Support Aid for Ukraine and Israel: A Turning Point in History

US President Joe Biden called on Congress to show unity on the issue of assistance for Ukraine and stressed that he “refuses” to allow a situation where political infighting in the US would jeopardize support for Ukraine.

As European Pravda reports, he said this in a special address on the evening of October 19 (at night of October 20 Kiev time).

Biden noted that he would submit an urgent budget request to Congress to fund US national security needs, with funds including support for Israel and Ukraine, and called it an investment that would have a “security dividend” for generations of Americans.

“Turning point in history”: Biden calls on Americans to support aid to Israel and Ukraine

“As for Ukraine, I ask Congress to ensure that we can continue to provide Ukraine with the weapons it needs without interruption, so that Ukraine can stop Putin’s barbarity in Ukraine,” the US President said.

Biden noted that Ukraine has already achieved great success, recalling that at the beginning the Kremlin was counting on a successful “blitzkrieg”, but instead Ukraine, with the support of a coalition of allies under the leadership of the United States, is gradually returning the occupied territories.

“What will happen if we leave now? We are a key state (in the process of helping Ukraine). Meanwhile, Putin went to Iran and North Korea,” he recalled.

Biden emphasized that in the case of military assistance to Ukraine, we are not talking about the participation of American troops, but only about weapons systems important for de-occupation and to protect the rear from missile terror.

He also noted that Ukraine is being given weapons from American warehouses, and the funds are being used to replenish them with new American-made weapons.

“As in World War II, patriotic American workers are now building the ‘arsenal of democracy’ and contributing to the fight for freedom,” Biden said.

The president shared memories of a long journey to Kyiv in February 2023, on which he was accompanied only by a small security team and a few advisers.

“But when I got off the train and met with President Zelensky, I didn’t feel like I was there alone. I carried with me the idea of America, the promise of America to people who are now fighting for the same thing we were fighting for 250 years ago – freedom, independence, self-determination. And when Zelensky and I walked along the streets and somewhere far away sirens howled, I felt even more than ever what I believed in: America is a beacon for the world, until now… People thanks to us they believe in a better world, a better future,” he noted.

“We have some differences at home and we need to overcome them. We cannot allow petty, biased, angry politics to interfere with our responsibility as a great power. We cannot and will not allow terrorists like Hamas and tyrants like “Putin was defeated. I refuse to let that happen,” Biden stressed.

“In moments like these, we must remember who we are. We are the United States of America. And nothing is impossible for us if we are united,” the US President concluded.

Let us remind you that on Thursday evening the presidents of Ukraine and the United States had a telephone conversationdedicated to the full-scale war in Russia, as well as the situation in the Middle East.

Meanwhile, the media learned additional details of the financing package, which Biden plans to ask Congress for Ukraine and Israel.
