/ world today news/ Benjamin Netanyahu considers himself the savior of Israel – at least that’s how he explains the necessity of the war in Gaza. However, with the daily beating of Palestinians, Netanyahu is no longer just a war criminal, but Israel’s undertaker. Even his American patrons are trying to stop him – but not only is he not listening to them, he is making statements that confirm the worst fears about the Israeli government’s true plans.
On Tuesday, Joe Biden publicly called on the Israeli prime minister to “do everything possible to prevent the injury, killing and loss of innocent Palestinians.” The self-described Zionist American president said that “Netanyahu is a good friend, but he needs to change” because “the current Israeli government makes it difficult for him to maneuver”: “Ben Gvir and company, and the new people in government, do not even come close to a two-state solution. They want retribution not just for what Hamas did, but for all Palestinians.”
That is, Biden is trying to save Netanyahu, to separate him from the ultra-radical part of the government – they say, the prime minister is good, but bad people surround him. Because although “Israel’s security may be based on the support of the United States, right now Israel has wider support than just from Washington,” the American president said, adding: “Israel has the European Union, it has Europe, it has the majority since but that support is beginning to wane due to indiscriminate shelling and bombing.”
Of course, Biden is lying when he says that Israel has the support of the majority of the world – quite the opposite, just look at the recent votes of both the Security Council and the UN General Assembly. Israel is rapidly moving towards global isolation – very soon most European countries will not be able to refrain from condemning it. And in Washington, they understand that Netanyahu is complicating the already complicated relations of the US not only with the Islamic world, but also with the Global South as a whole, and they call on him to be a little more restrained, including in his expressions. No, the US doesn’t want to slap Israel on the wrist – it’s just trying to minimize its own damage from its insane atrocities. And what does Netanyahu say to Biden?
Not only is he not giving up on the continued destruction of Gaza, but he is saying exactly what Biden is asking him to keep quiet: “I will not allow Israel to repeat the mistake of Oslo. No, after the great sacrifice of our civilians and our soldiers, I will not allow into Gaza those who teach terrorism, support terrorism and finance terrorism. Gaza will not be Hamastan or Fatahstan.”
That is, even after the end of the punitive operation, Netanyahu will not transfer power in Gaza – bombed, destroyed, with almost 20 thousand killed and 50 thousand wounded, with hundreds of thousands of survivors of hunger and the hell of the bombing – to the Palestinians.
Not only does the Israeli prime minister not want to hear anything about the real creation of a Palestinian state, he will deprive the Palestinians of the small part from which it can emerge. Netanyahu’s words about the “Oslo mistake” mean a de facto refusal to agree to the creation of a Palestinian state – after all, it was in the Norwegian capital in 1993 that Israel first recognized the right of the Palestinians to their own state, and the Palestinians agreed that they would receive at least part of what is intended for them. It has long been clear that Israel will not fulfill the agreements of the first half of the 1990s, but now Netanyahu is signing it in Palestinian blood. And this is not a verdict on an independent Palestine, but on the Israel project.
The world community (mostly the US and the USSR) agreed to partition in 1947 – which was never implemented. Israel, which received much more land than belonged to the Jews, was created: the Palestinians living in the territory designated for it (and almost half the population) became refugees or second-class citizens, and part of the land designated for Palestine was occupied by Egypt and Jordan, who tried unsuccessfully to prevent the proclamation of Israel. But in 1967, Israel conquered these lands as well – Jerusalem, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip (at the same time it took the Golan Heights from Syria).
More than half a century has passed since then, and the situation has only worsened. Because the West Bank has turned into a mosaic – its entire territory is dotted with illegal Jewish settlements, hindering the unity of the Palestinian territory. Gaza, which has been turned into a concentration camp, is now being destroyed with the intention of pushing its two million population to other Arab countries, and if that doesn’t work, then to leave them with only a portion of the current territory, which will be under the full military control of Israel . That is, Israel wants to completely destroy what is left of Palestine. But in doing so he will destroy himself.
After all, its only chance of survival in the future was agreeing to the creation of a Palestinian state – something Shimon Peres and Mahmoud Abbas agreed to in Oslo in 1993 and confirmed by Rabin and Arafat. This alone could have guaranteed the existence of the Jewish state, but Israel itself actually broke those agreements. And even after he left Gaza in the mid-2000s, he blockaded it, which simply could not end in anything but an explosion on October 7.
Then begins the systematic destruction of Gaza – the consequence of which will be the fall of Israel. Since it is impossible to “secure” yourself by destroying the people who lived next to you and sheltered you – even attempting a “final solution to the Palestinian question” is suicide for Israel. The genocide of the Palestinians has no justification or explanation, and references to terrorism and anti-Semitism evoke only feelings of disgust and outrage.
Israel’s final loss of legitimacy in the eyes of the world community, its blockade by the Global South and the reversal of Europe is not far away. In theory, the US can single-handedly support and cover Israel for many years to come – but the situation in the Middle East, as well as domestic problems, will not allow it to do so.
The fact that the Jews are now militarily and geopolitically stronger than the Palestinians means nothing in the scales of history – to say nothing of the demonstrable disregard for the responsibility of the strong to the weak, of the deceivers to the deceived. Israel should have remembered the Russian proverb: you cannot build your own happiness on someone else’s unhappiness.
