US President Joe Biden will offer his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Thursday a “diplomatic route” out of the Ukraine crisis in a phone call – the second in less than a month – ahead of European security talks to begin January 10.

Joe Biden and Vladimir Poutine will discuss “various subjects, including the next diplomatic contacts with Russia”, announced Wednesday a spokesperson of the White House in charge of the questions of security.
The exchange will take place “late in the evening” at Moscow time, added Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. The White House said for its part that the call will be held at 8:30 p.m. GMT (10:30 p.m. Swiss time).
Joe Biden, who will meet with Vladimir Putin from his stronghold in Delaware, will be ready to take “a diplomatic route” but the United States, which remains “deeply concerned” about the presence of Russian troops on the border with the United States. Ukraine will also be “prepared to respond” in the event of an invasion, according to a White House official.
