Washington, Apr 20 (EFE) .- The President of the United States, Joe Biden, will make an announcement related to Ukraine this Thursday, amid rumors that the White House is preparing to authorize another 800 million dollars in military assistance to that country .

In announcing the president’s public agenda for Thursday, the White House indicated that Biden will appear before the press at 9:45 a.m. (13:45 GMT) to make an announcement “on Russia and Ukraine.”

The presidential office did not give more details, but a few hours earlier, the CNN television network assured that the United States Government was preparing a new military aid package for Ukraine valued at 800 million dollars.

That would bring to about $3.4 billion the military assistance the United States has provided to Ukraine since Russia invaded the country on February 24, according to CNN, which cited three official sources.

Furthermore, the announcement would come just a week after Biden authorized another package also valued at $800 million, which included more lethal weaponry than previously provided, to help combat the Russian offensive in Donbas.

Biden will make his remarks before embarking on a trip to the West Coast, to Portland, Oregon, and Seattle, Washington, which will focus on his economic agenda and the climate crisis.

His announcement will also come a day after Washington publicized a new battery of sanctions against a network of 40 individuals and companies, led by the Russian oligarch Konstantin Maloféyev, which is supposedly helping Russia to dodge Western sanctions for the war. in Ukraine. EFE
