10.18 am: US Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to appear with President Joe Biden at the Democratic Party Convention in Chicago on Monday. But that’s not all: the 81-year-old is expected to give a speech at the beginning of the convention.
Biden will speak at the conference in Chicago on Monday evening, the White House said. The party’s gathering is taking place under different circumstances than expected after Biden withdrew from the race for the White House and made way for Vice President Kamala Harris.
The nomination of his deputy as presidential candidate was actually supposed to take place in Chicago, but for bureaucratic reasons it was already handled digitally. The party convention will therefore now primarily serve to celebrate Harris and her running mate Tim Walz with a big show and to give them momentum for the election campaign in the coming weeks.

11.11pm: Vice President Kamala Harris has announced that she will spend $370 million (around €335 million) on digital and television advertising for her presidential campaign between Labor Day, which takes place every year on the first Monday in September, and Election Day on November 5. According to Democrats, this is a “historic” sum, several US media outlets report.
Harris plans to spend $170 million on TV advertising and $200 million on digital advertising. “Our coordinated campaign now includes more than 1,600 paid staff and more than 280 offices in the campaign areas,” the Harris campaign team said.
“This weekend, on the road to the Democratic National Convention, we are mobilizing 2,800 events in our key states to reach the voters who will decide this election.” More than 10,000 supporters have signed up for volunteer shifts this weekend alone, it continues.
