Washington: Extreme levels of flood danger were announced in the Southeastern United States today. President Joe Biden has announced that the situation in Texas, which has been hit hardest by the snow, will be declared a disaster. As many as 1.3 crore people are suffering without access to electricity, drinking water and food. Declaring it a disaster area will pave the way for the state to receive more federal assistance.
More than 60 people across the U.S. have died so far in the freezing cold. The city of Jackson, home to 1.5 million people, and Tennessee, home to 6.5 million people, are without drinking water. People find drinking water by collecting ice and boiling it when the tap water has frozen. Power outages and lack of fuel have posed a challenge to drinking water. Meanwhile, disaster management agencies are working to make bottled water available.
