US President Joe Biden said that the deployment of American troops in Ukraine to prevent a potential Russian invasion was never planned. So he answered a journalist’s question about whether Washington abandoned such an idea.

Biden said that in the event of an invasion of Ukraine, the West would impose tough economic sanctions against Russia, which had never been applied before. Biden expressed confidence that Putin understood the severity of the possible consequences.
“The impact of all this on Russia and the attitude of the whole world towards it, the view of it will change significantly,” Biden said.
The US president added that he made it clear to Putin that the United States will continue to provide defense assistance to Ukraine.
