The results of a recent poll in which American ‘s was asked to rate the presidents of the United States according to their opinion show current President Joe Biden in 11th place and former President Donald Trump in 20th.
The US division of YouGov, an international research and analysis firm, surveyed 3,000 adult US citizens for a week in mid-July, asking for their personal views on the 45 US presidents who ever served (note that Grover Cleveland served two non-consecutive terms).
Respondents were given a list of presidents in the order they were in office, with the instructions, “For each of the following US Presidents, please indicate whether you have a favorable or unfavorable opinion of them. If you have not heard of that president, please check the ‘I have not heard of’ option. “
More Highlights Included: Abraham Lincoln finished first as America’s most beloved president, Richard Nixon finished last as the least loved president, Chester A. Arthur was declared the most forgotten president in the poll.
Ten presidents received a “very favorable” or “somewhat favorable” rating with the majority of respondents: Lincoln, John F. Kennedy, George Washington, Theodore Roosevelt, Thomas Jefferson, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Barack Obama, Ronald Regan and Harry S. Truman Biden earned a favorable rating of 47 percent at 11th.
Only two US presidents ended up getting a majority of “somewhat unfavorable” or “very unfavorable” responses: Richard Nixon with 56 percent and Donald Trumpen with 54 percent unfavorable.
Looking at the poll results along political party lines, little deviation from party loyalty is shown, although most participants seemed to love Lincoln. The top five Democrats in popularity include Obama, Biden. , Kennedy, Lincoln, and Franklin D. Roosevelt. The top five Republicans were Lincoln, Reagan, Washington, Trump, and Jefferson.
The least favorites of the Democrats were Arthur, Franklin Pierce, John Tyler, Millard Filmore and Trump. The Republican elections for the most unpopular presidents were Martin Van Buren, Arthur, James Buchanan, Obama and Biden.
Many public polls that rank the approval ratings of presidents include criteria for job performance, however the YouGov America poll only asks respondents to consider their personal opinions.
