US President Joe Biden spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin for the first time since taking office and raised concerns about the detention of Russian opposition activist Alexey Navalni.
According to Reuters, White House spokesman Jen Saki announced that “President Biden spoke with President Putin for about two hours on the 26th (local time) and discussed various issues.”
The topic of the currency on this day was the discussion of the extension of the new strategic arms reduction agreement (New Start) signed by the US with Russia. ‘New Start’ was an agreement between then-president Barack Obama and then-Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in April 2010, and the deadline for the agreement expired on the 5th of next month, and discussions have recently started to extend again.
In the currency, the two leaders also exchanged opinions on the case of massive hacking of Ukraine, US federal agencies, and the murder of US troops in Afghanistan. It also dealt with Russian election intervention.
The relationship between the two countries is deteriorating as the US is holding Russia accountable for recent attempts to poison Navalni, the damage of hacking, and the murder of US troops.
