Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – President of the United States (US) Joe Biden has issued a new warning about foreign cyber attacks that hit his country. He said that this attack could trigger a real deadly war.
Citing Reuters, he stated this in a speech at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI). He responded to several hacker attacks that allegedly were orders from Russia and China.
“If we end up in a real shooting war with great force. That will be the consequence of cyber breaches,” the Delaware president said, written Thursday (29/7/2021).
Cyber security has now become Biden’s main focus amid incessant cyber attacks on a number of companies in Uncle Sam’s country. It’s not just money, some attacks are affecting fuel and food supplies in parts of the US.
US companies such as SolarWinds, Colonial Pipeline, meat processing company JBS and software company Kaseya are known to have experienced a series of cyberattacks. In the case of the Colonial Pipeline oil pipeline hack, for example, it has disrupted 45% of jet fuel supplies on the US East Coast.
This was also Biden’s spotlight when he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin last month in Geneva. In which he shared a number of lists of critical infrastructure that the US considers forbidden to be ‘disturbed’.
“Since then, senior members of the Biden administration’s national security team have been in constant contact with senior members of the Kremlin regarding cyber attacks in the United States,” the White House said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Biden also specifically mentioned the threat coming from China. He considers Beijing’s maneuvers this time very seriously in developing its hegemony in the economic and military fields.
“They are very serious about becoming the most powerful military power in the world, as well as the largest and most prominent economy in the world in the mid-40s, 2040s,” he said.
