Biden signs $ 13.6 billion aid package for Ukraine The news

Washington, March 15, LETA – CNN. US President Joe Biden signed an ambitious spending law on Tuesday, which also includes $ 13.6 billion in military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine.

Military aid is estimated at $ 6.5 billion. It will be given to the US Department of Defense to send US troops to the region and provide defense armaments to Ukraine.

More than $ 4 billion has been earmarked for humanitarian aid. These funds will provide assistance to refugees leaving Ukraine, as well as to internally displaced persons in Ukraine, emergency food assistance, health care and emergency support for vulnerable communities in the region.

$ 1.8 billion is earmarked for the economic aid bloc. This support will be used to respond to the economic needs of Ukraine and neighboring countries, including cyber security and energy.

The law provides $ 25 million for the U.S. Global Media Agency to fight disinformation. Another $ 120 million is earmarked to support local activists and journalists in Ukraine, as well as efforts to bring Russia to justice for human rights abuses.

The 2022 budget law was passed by the US Congress on Thursday.

“We keep our promise to help Ukraine fight for their lives against the evil Vladimir Putin,” Senate Democrat leader Chuck Schumer said in a statement after the budget was passed.

The $ 13.6 billion in aid includes support for refugees, armaments supplies and support for NATO allies in Eastern Europe.

Schumer said the aid would provide food, medicine and shelter to more than two million refugees, paying for measures to rebuild Ukraine’s devastated economy.

“It will also inject billions into military support – it will provide supplies of armaments such as Javelin and Stinger, it will provide re-assurances and strengthen NATO, it will give additional strength to our defense against Russia’s abusive cyber war,” he added.
