US President calls on Tehran to refrain from attack
Moscow. 12th of April. INTERFAX.RU – US President Joe Biden said that Iran may soon strike Israel.
“I believe it will be sooner rather than later,” Biden said at the White House, answering a journalist’s question about when Iran might attack Israel.
At the same time, the American leader called on Tehran not to do this.
When asked to send a message to Iran, Biden replied: “No need.” He stressed that the United States is committed to supporting Israel.
“We will support Israel and help it defend itself. Iran will not succeed,” the head of the White House said.
Earlier on Friday, White House adviser John Kirby confirmed that the US administration regards the scenario of an Iranian attack on Israel as quite possible. Later, the Axios portal, citing sources, reported that Tehran warned Washington that American troops would become a target for the Iranian military if the United States intervened in a possible armed conflict between Iran and Israel.
On April 1, Tehran and Damascus reported an Israeli missile attack on the Iranian consulate in the Syrian capital. The attack killed two generals of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Iran promised to respond to this attack, but did not specify when or how it would do so.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned on Thursday that Israel would not let the attack go unanswered, no matter where it came from.
