President of the U.S.A Joe Biden months before lifting the sanctions against the Nord Stream 2 operator, received money from the Russian gas pipeline lobbyist Richard Burt. And although these are relatively small amounts, this can be considered a violation of the election promise of the American leader.
This is reported by the American newspaper New York Post. Bert donated $ 4,000 in October 2020. In March of that year, he spent $ 10,000 on the Political Action Committee of Unite The County.
“The money from Burt not only violates Biden’s election commitment not to accept money from lobbyists, but is of particular importance, since he is now directly involved in lobbying for Nord Stream 2,” the publication says.
Bert has partnered with five European energy companies: ENGIE, OMV, Shell, Uniper and Wintershall Dea. Lobbying disclosure forms show that Bert is currently defending the interests of all five. He is promoting Nord Stream 2 and advising on the sanctions.
“When Richard Burt made a donation to the Biden Victory Fund, he did not admit that he was a registered foreign agent and therefore was not eligible to donate,” a spokesman for the Democratic National Committee told The Post.
The Nord Stream 2 project is estimated at 9.5 billion euros. It is being implemented by Gazprom in an alliance with European companies Engie, Uniper, OMV, Shell, Wintershall. They pledged to finance Nord Stream 2 in total by 50%, that is, 950 million euros each. Gazprom will provide the second half of the funds – 4.75 billion euros.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the gas pipeline must be put into operation at the beginning of 2021. However, later the dates were postponed to the end of the year.
As previously reported OBOZREVATEL, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba and his Polish counterpart Zbigniew Rau publicly addressed the US President Joe Biden with the request stop the construction of Nord Stream 2 using any tools.
